William "Will" Putnam is a recurring character in Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Season 4 and Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building. He is the son of Oliver Putnam and Roberta Putnam and lives with his family in New Jersey.
He is portrayed by Ryan Broussard.
History[]
Will grew up in the Arconia, and knew of Tim Kono and Mabel Mora, though he wasn't friends with them. He broke a window at the Arconia when he was ten, which Bunny Folger still holds against him.
At some point, his parents divorced and he and his mother moved out, leaving Oliver in the apartment alone.[1]
Oliver Asking for Money[]
Oliver came to his house in New Jersey in order to ask him for money. Will refused, and told Oliver that he should sell the apartment, as Will couldn't lend him money again. Oliver said he couldn't because the apartment was all he had, which upset Will. Will then tried to get Oliver to stay for Sunday dinner, but Oliver said he needed to get back home.[2]
Saving Winnie[]
When Oliver came home to find Winnie on the floor with a white powder next to her, he called Will, who immediately came and took care of her. When he brought a cured Winnie back to Oliver, he told her he'd listened to the podcast and told him that Mabel had lied to them. She spent school breaks at the Arconia as a child and she and Tim Kono were friends and another friend of theirs died from getting pushed off a roof. He advised Oliver to keep his distance.[3]
Podcast Finale[]
When the trio released what they believed was the finale of the podcast, pointing to Teddy and Theo Dimas as the murderers, Will listened to the episode with Winnie on his lap.[4]
Talking to Oliver About the Case[]
Will returned Winnie to Oliver, having cured her of the poison. He offered Oliver a check for his "next big thing," but Oliver refused it, offering him an "awkward hug" instead. Oliver then told Will the story of how they had solved the case.[5]
Meeting Bunny[]
On what ended up being the last day of Bunny's life, Will and Oliver were at The Pickle Diner and saw her there eating alone. Oliver pulled Will over and asked if Bunny remembered him. She only remembered him as the ten-year-old who broke a window. Will saw the pamphlet she had for Boca Raton and asked if she was considering a move to Florida. Oliver dismissively said that he and Bunny were lifers, and she'd probably be buried in the Arconia.[6]
Directing The Wizard of Oz[]
When Will ended up directing his son's school's production of The Wizard of Oz, he called his father for help, but Oliver said he was too busy and couldn't come. However, he later showed up with a bag of skittles, which he used to bribe the children into following directions.[7]
Science Fair Project[]
While working on The Wizard of Oz, Will also helped Henry with his science project, which involved making a family tree and getting a DNA test. When the results came back, Will asked if Oliver was sure he was 100% Irish because the test came back, with one half of the results clearly being from Roberta, but the other half was Greek, and not Irish like Oliver.[8]
Three days before The Wizard of Oz's debut, Oliver came to give Will final notes, as Will said the show had descended back into chaos. Oliver told him he could handle it as he was a Putnam for real. Will was happy to hear that, as the uncertainty had been weighing on him. He said he felt like he could have a good show now that the weight was off.[9]
Treating Mrs. Gambolini[]
After the killer reveal party, Oliver called Will over because he said something was wrong with Mrs. Gambolini. When Will arrived, Oliver said he had something to tell Will, intending to tell him the truth about Teddy being his biological father. Will stopped him and said if Oliver wasn't his father, he doesn't know what a father is. He had known all along because he knows all of Oliver's tells. They then hugged.[10]
Oliver's Heart Attack[]
Will came to his dad's place when he had a heart attack. Doctor Douglas told Oliver that he needed to reduce stress and change his diet. He also put a Holter monitor on Oliver and told him to push the button every time he felt an irregular heartbeat.[11]
Oliver and Loretta's Wedding[]
Will came back to the Arconia for Oliver and Loretta's wedding. He walked Loretta down the aisle along with Dickie Glenroy.[12]
