Ty Wessex is a recurring character in Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. He is an actor in Oliver's play, Death Rattle Dazzle.
He is portrayed by Gerald Caesar.
History[]
Death Rattle[]
Ty was cast in Oliver's play Death Rattle. At the first read-through, Ben Glenroy, the lead of the play, came in late and while introducing himself, said that Ty was way too hot and joked that they should fire him.
Four months later, on opening night, Ben collapsed on stage and was pronounced dead. Oliver sent everyone back to his place for the party he'd planned. They were all shocked when Ben came into the party. He said they'd pumped his stomach and he had to leave the hospital to come apologize to all of them for his behavior. He specifically apologized to Ty for getting mad that Ty wanted to use his trainer. He said there was no way Ty could afford Hutch, but said he'd give Ty Hutch's number.[1]
Ben's Funeral[]
Ty attended Ben's funeral with Kimber and Bobo, where they were relegated to overflow three.[2]
Death Rattle Dazzle[]
Oliver called Ty and the rest of the cast to his place when he decided to convert Death Rattle into a musical, calling it Death Rattle Dazzle. He had them practice the opening number of the show in order to prepare a presentation for Cliff and Donna in the hopes of securing their continued financial support. The cast was less enthusiastic about this and asked Charles to tell Oliver they wouldn't do it. When Oliver had Loretta perform Look for the Light instead of the opening number they'd rehearsed, they were convinced it was a good choice.[3]
At the next rehearsal, Oliver decided to start by having Charles rehearse his patter song. Charles started, but flubbed a line and went to the White Room. When he came to, the others explained to him what had happened and shared their own experiences.[4]
During the sitzprobe, Detective Williams came in and said that someone in the show was the murderer. She wanted to take everyone down to the station to be interviewed, but Oliver convinced her to hold the interviews at the theater, allowing the sitzprobe to continue. During Bobo's interview, Williams became frustrated when he repeatedly talked about his family life and asked him to drop it.[5]
Opening Night[]
On opening night, the cast posed for red carpet photos. When Jonathan took too many pills to go on stage, Oliver stepped into his role and the show went on. Despite both Charles and Oliver leaving the stage during the show, despite their characters being dead and Cliff confessing to Ben's murder, the show went well and was reviewed well.[6]
