Trina Brothers is a recurring character in season four of Only Murders in the Building. She is the director of the movie based on the podcast and is portrayed by Catherine Cohen.
History[]
Trina and her sister, Tawny, became interested in filmmaking as children. They saved up to buy a camera when they were nine, but it wasn't enough, so they stole it and began making movies together. This led to them being outcasts in school until they went to college, where they met Milton Dudenoff, who encouraged them to keep making movies and gave them his old super 8s. Their relationship with him was strained when they told him they wanted to make bigger films to make more money, which he disapproved up. For the next three years, he refused to take their calls. When they had the opportunity to direct a film that took place in the place where he lived, they hoped it would help them reconnect, but he still refused their calls.[1]
After signing on to direct the movie, they then both sat in on a meeting with Charles, Mabel, and Oliver to ask them to sign over their life rights so the movie could be made.[2]
Tawny, Trina, and Bev came to the Arconia, where they held auditions for the movie. Among the auditions was Howard, who auditioned to play himself. They loved it, but told him that Josh Gad would be playing him in the movie. Despite this disappointment, they declared him amazing and said they would nurture him.[3]
Tawny and Trina set up in the production office to do a promotional photo shoot for the movie. They said that Oliver, Mabel, and Charles should be in it as well. They also had Eugene, Eva, and Zach come as well as stand-ins for each of them. They had set up mirrors as well to give the illusion of there being even more of them. As they posed for pictures, Trina and Tawny directed them on how to act. During this process, Trina demonstrated that she's very strong by picking up Oliver and moving him to his mark. Just as Charles and Mabel realized the footprint from the crime scene matched Tawny's boots, Trina disappeared and then they heard some gunshots.[4]
In the aftermath of the shooting, which injured Zach Galifianakis and Glen Stubbins, Trina and Tawny started filming and caught Oliver, Charles, and Mabel as they were getting into an elevator.
Charles, Oliver, and Mabel later came to the production office to confront Trina and Tawny. They explained that they knew about their connection to Dudenoff and believed they would kill for him. After considering it, Trina and Tawny declared that they would kill for him, as he was the first person who believed in them. They also revealed they'd hidden cameras in the production office and each of the trios' apartments to make a behind the scenes film within the film. When they learned that Dudenoff was in the incinerator with Sazz, they decided to change that to make a found-footage film about the murder of their mentor.[1]
After Sazz's murder was solved, Trina and Tawny carried on directing the movie, now with Sazz getting credit as the writer.[5]
