The following page is a timeline of the events in Only Murders in the Building, both during and prior to Series 1 and 2.

- Mabel Mora is born.[1]
- Charles-Haden Savage moves into the Arconia

- Oliver Putnam directs Splash! The Musical, the biggest flop of his career

December[]
31st[]
- The Hardy Boys go to the party on the roof of the Arconia
- Zoe is accidentally pushed off the roof by Theo Dimas
- Teddy Dimas threatens Tim to keep his mouth shut about what he saw
- Oscar is sent to prison
2021[]
January[]
13th[]
- Jan finds the emerald ring at Tim's apartment[2]
Note: There is a minor timeline inaccuracy here. Oscar mentions that Tim got the emerald ring "the day before he was killed" (episode: Fan Fiction). However, Jan later says that she found the ring in his apartment "the day before we broke up", two days before he was killed. (episode: Open and Shut)
14th[]
- Tim breaks up with Jan
16th[]
- 4:48 - the trio meet in the lift for the first time
- 5:00 - the new episode of All Is Not OK in Oklahoma is released
- 5:30 - Tim Kono is murdered
17th[]
- Mabel and Oliver break into Bunny's apartment and steal the engagement ring.
31st[]
- Mabel and Oscar drive to Bayport to Tavo's tattoo shop
- Oliver and Charles follow them there
- Everyone meets up at the tattoo shop and Tavo reveals that Tim thought he was going to be murdered
- The trio and Oscar go to Mabel's childhood home for dinner
- Teddy writes the trio a cheque for $50,000[3]
February[]
1st[]
- Donna Williams submits the tox report[4]
3rd[]
- Oliver and Mabel go to the funeral at Shine On Funeral Home.
- They see Theo Dimas stealing jewellery from the corpse
- Theo kidnaps them and they drive all night.[5]
4th[]
- Oliver and Mabel are returned to the Arconia by Teddy and Theo, where they briefly interact with the Arconiacs
- The trio meet Detective Williams
- They meet the fans and invite them up to the apartment to work through the case overnight
Friday 5th[]
- 5:30 AM - the trio begin recording the "final" episode revealing Teddy as the killer
- 7:00 AM - The trio release the "final" episode
- 2:13 PM - Detective Williams receives an email from the NYPD lab with the tox report results that show that Tim was poisoned.[6]
- Charles goes to apologise to Jan and finds her unconscious and bleeding on the floor.
7th[]
- Bunny writes Oliver an eviction notice[7]
- Sazz Pataki visits Charles and Jan.
- Sazz suggests that the murder was a crime of passion and points to the tumblers as evidence
- The trio go to the building meeting, where several residents complain against them
- They are voted to be evicted
- Charles tells Oliver and Mabel that he is done with the podcast
- Jan returns to her apartment to prepare for her concert the following day.
- Oliver stays at Mabel's apartment, as he has been evicted from his own apartment.
8th[]
- Oscar prepares to see his lawyer and clear his name
- Sazz visits Charles to apologise for her behaviour the previous day and talk to him about their mutual ex-girlfriend Cookie
- Charles goes to see Jan playing Stravinsky's Firebird in a concert with the New York City Symphony
- Mabel and Oliver visit Ndidi Idoko to ask if she knew anything about Tim's love life
- Mabel and Oliver search Jan's apartment and find a box of toxins and a bloody knife, then go through Tim's sex toy box and find the bassoon cleaner
- Evening - Charles goes to Jan's concert, but leaves after realising that Jan lied about being first chair bassoon. He returns to his apartment.
- Jan leaves the concert at intermission to explain to Charles about her lie.
- Charles invites her in for a drink and they talk.
- Jan poisons Charles' handkerchief, which starts to take effect after he has tricked her into confessing everything. She leaves him on the floor and goes to gas the building, unaware that he has been recording the whole conversation.
- Charles tries to make his way to warn the other two, but is sent back up to his apartment by Lester. Meanwhile, Oliver and Mabel race to find him.
- 8:48 PM[8] - The trio finally meet up and manage to get into Charles' phone to listen to the recording.
Note: There is a major inaccuracy in the timeline here. Although the date on Charles' phone should be Monday, February 8th, it is in fact visible in this screenshot as Sunday, March 8th, (which was not the correct date for 2021 - the 8th of both February and March was a Monday.) The screenshot is very low quality and difficult to see as the image is only on the screen for a few seconds, but the month is definitely given as March. This is problematic for the previous timeline, but makes much more sense for the timeline for Season 2.
- They go to the basement and reverse Jan's actions to prevent the Arconia from being gassed.
- Jan enters the basement with a gun but Oliver shoves Charles' stroller at her, knocking her off balance, then Mabel stuns her with a punch to the face.
- Jan is arrested and Charles is taken to hospital.
March[]
10th[]
- The Daily Dispatch runs a cover story about Charles, Mabel and Oliver solving Tim's murder.[9]
12th[]
- The trio celebrate the "almost one week" anniversary of solving Tim's murder.
- Bunny Folger is murdered
13th[]
- Mabel receives a video message from Alice Banks inviting her to her gallery night[10]
21st[]
- Cinda Canning releases the first episode of Only Murderers in the Building.
- The trio break into Bunny Folger's apartment.
30th[]
- Lucy visits Charles in his apartment at the Arconia.
- Lucy shows the trio the hidden passageways inside the Arconia.
- Nina Lin's water breaks in her apartment at the Arconia.
- Jan Bellows contacts Charles from prison.
April[]
8th[]
- The trio set up the glitter bomb trap at Morningside Park
- Cinda Canning drops a new episode of Only Murderers in the Building, featuring an interview with Jimmy Russo
- Sazz breaks up with Jan on behalf of Charles
- Mabel goes to Alice's gallery and finds her setting up a recreation of moments from Mabel's life
- Mabel stabs Glitter Guy on the subway
- Theo takes Mabel to his apartment, seeing that she is in a state of shock.
- Oliver comes to Charles' apartment to wait for his DNA results
9th[11][]
- Mabel and Theo go to Coney Island.
- Detective Williams visits Charles and Oliver to discuss the case with them.
- Charles and Oliver give Williams the knife that they found in Charles' apartment.
- The trio meet in the Pickle Diner
- There is a city-wide blackout
