With the clock ticking, the trio doubles down to bring "new" and "old" forces together.
Full Summary[]
Nicky charms Sofia with poetry as she sits on the counter at the dry cleaners. He promises she'll have whatever she wants and she tucks a flower into his shirt pocket to remind them of their future. They kiss.
Mabel stands in the Velvet Room, watching the Roulette wheel spin.
Sofia's sons pat a balloon around while she rests on a chair.
Sofia and Nicky fight. He's shocked when she tells him it's over. She's done. Nicky asks what happened and she says nothing. He thinks something must have happened because he did everything he promised and he loves her. She says he used to love her. Now he's just used to her waiting around. Nicky says they had plans and he got lost along the way, but he can do better. Nicky then asks if it's someone else. She says it doesn't matter because this is about us. He asks who it is and she says nobody. She's upset that he's saying this when he's repeatedly cheated on her. He says he's going to find out who it is and when Nicky finds him, he's dead.
Charles asks Teddy to ask Nonna why she stole the finger. Oliver wants Teddy to explain about where the finger came from. Teddy starts to explain to Nonna that he's only on level six on Duolingo, so Nonna says she speaks English, to his relief. Charles asks where Sofia is and her sons say that she's been gone for a few days and Nonna has been taking care of them. Nonna asks them to give her a minute. They're reluctant to go, but then Howard asks Vinny to show him their starching machine. Vinny, immediately charmed by Howard's flirting, says yes and has Howard come with them. Once they're gone, Nonna explains that Sofia recognized the finger the first time she saw it. Mabel asks whose it was, but Nonna doesn't know. She just knows that Sofia knew it. Mabel asks if she means that it belonged to someone Sofia was sleeping with. Nonna shrugs.
Back at the Arconia, Charles, Mabel, and Oliver talk about why Lester might have thought Sofia's paramour's finger would be enough to go on. They run into Randall, who tells them almost everyone has moved out, but it's good that they're getting a last look before it's all gone. When Mabel asks what he means, Romy says after the press conference announcing the casino, they'll be demolishing the building. Camila figured out it was cheaper to tear it down and start from scratch than to renovate it.
As movers carry everything out of his apartment, Oliver says he can't believe Camila is demolishing the Arconia. Mabel reminds him they still have a few hours before the press conference. She proposes doing one more murder board. Oliver stops a mover from taking it away, saying they're using it. The mover doubts that because it seems like it only has questions, no answers. Charles says they know the finger belonged to someone in the Velvet Room that night. Mabel says the only people there that night aside from Lester and Nicky were the billionaires and they know the finger doesn't belong to any of them. Charles wonders what if it did belong to one of them. He did magic as a kid and did a trick that used fake fingers. One of the billionaires might have used one themselves. Maybe Camila, who was always wearing her grandmother's gloves. Oliver says Bash always has the Oura ring on his pointer. And Jay actually is missing a finger, but they counted him out because it faced the wrong way. Perhaps there's an exception to that rule. Oliver says that means the question is which of them was sleeping with Sofia. Charles thinks he's most qualified to answer that as her ex-lover. They go over the options. The mover comes back and asks if Oliver's Newark! Newark! poster is trash. Oliver says no, it's the only play ever to receive a formal complaint from New Jersey. Oliver thinks that might be the key to their plan, not the show, but the way it was produced, by leaning on friends from the old country.
Jay and Bash arrive to find The Velvet Room dark. Charles, Mabel, and Oliver are waiting for them and they question if they shouldn't have moved out by now. The trio puts on exaggerated mob voices and says they just have some questions and they won't stop until they get their answers. Camila comes in. She and the other two billionaires got a note that the casino bid was still in play and she's there to say it's not true. Charles says that note was from them. The billionaires were not intimidated by their security guard, Howard. The Caccimelio brothers then come in to help. They're all carrying weapons. Oliver tells the new mob to meet the old mob.
Camila asks them if the plan is to kill the billionaires. The brothers say yes and act menacing. Oliver tells them that's plenty and has them cool off. They're upset at not being able to help. Mabel then pulls out a cleaver and tells them to put their hands on the table. If they don't start talking, she'll start chopping. She asks whose finger they found. They'll be solving the case before the building is demolished, so they better give it up. The billionaires look at each other and then Jay unwraps his hand to reveal that he was never missing a finger. They just wanted the finger and they thought if it looked like he was missing one, they would hand it over. But he didn't kill anyone. Charles tugs on Camila's index fingers through her gloves. Her are real as well. Bash knows what's coming and offers up his own finger to check. Next, they ask which of them was sleeping with Sofia. The brothers are grossed out by the idea of their mom being with anyone. They don't believe she's ever kissed anyone except Jesus. The trio decides that the brothers are hurting more than helping and have them leave. Mabel holds up the cleaver and again and Camila tells her to put it down because no one believes she's the cleaving type. Suddenly, the door opens and they turn to see Tillman, who says the room is really cool. He got down there by pushing past Howard. He tells Camila they have ten minutes until the press conference. He asks what they're playing, but Mabel has frozen, looking at a message on her phone. She says she knows who killed Lester. She reaches over and brings the cleaver down, knocking off Tillman's finger, revealing it as a fake. It was Tillman. Tillman looks down at his hand and says he supposes he should say ow.
Tillman picks up the finger and Oliver and Charles are shocked that it was fake. Mabel says he was at the game night that night and he was sleeping with Sofia. And he murdered Lester. Tillman asks how she knows. Mabel says it's the texts she just got from Lester. She shows them that he said that someone was coming down and it's beautiful. Then corrects that he meant Beau Tillman. "It's beautiful" is what Lester texted his wife right before he died. He was trying to say it was Beau Tillman. Tillman admits he was there. Whenever the billionaires need a favor, they invite him to a game and lose a bunch of money to him so they can get their permits approved or whatever they need. That night, things went sideways.
Lester is dealing for Camila, Bash, and Jay. They notice Nicky is distracted and ask him about it. He's looking a pictures of Sofia and Tillman kissing on his phone. Tillman then comes in, ready to get started. They're playing for the casino contract. He takes Nicky's seat and Bash tells Nicky to get Tillman a drink. Nicky says he's not a bartender, but Tillman just wants a finger of whiskey. Nicky does a line of coke off the cleaver and then takes it back to the table, where he cuts Tillman's finger off. Everyone else is stunned. Tillman grabs a towel and holds it to his hand as Nicky chases him around with the cleaver. Lester comes up behind Nicky and hits him with the elevator crank, drawing Nicky's attention to him. Nicky asks what he's doing and Lester says it's what he should have done a long time ago, standing up to Nicky to end all this. He's seen a lot and he's been taking notes so he can take his ledger to the cops. Nicky rips a page out and eats it. Nicky then starts to get unstable on his feet and falls onto Lester, pushing the cleaver into his own chest. Bash asks if anyone has a guy for this. Tillman reminds them that he just lost a finger and has lost a lot of blood. As Jay goes to help him, Lester grabs the finger and leaves. Tillman goes to find the finger and sees that it's gone and so is Lester. Camila says no one can go anywhere until they clean up the blood. Jay asks if this means the game is off and Bash says it means the game is on.
Tillman follows Lester upstairs and says everything is fine, but he's going to need the finger. Lester says he doesn't have it anymore, upsetting Tillman. Lester keeps backing away to keep his distance from Tillman. Tillman tries to bribe Lester to forget about all this, but Lester is done being bought, unlike Tillman. Tillman says his father was a cab driver who worked his whole life and had nothing to show for it. He wanted things to be different for him. Now he's mayor of New York City. All that goes away if the wrong person has his finger. Lester says their job is to protect the city. If Tillman wants to stop him, he'll have to kill him, right in front of all the security cameras. Tillman says Bash owns the cameras and will be willing to make it look like an accident. Tillman starts looking around for the finger and Lester gets into a drawer and pulls out his bird whistle. Then he runs out to the courtyard. He takes a picture and texts his wife that it's Beau Tillman. He accidentally drops the elevator crank as he moves. Tillman chases him, asking him for the finger, but Lester just tells him his friends will catch him. He looks up at the bird camera as Tillman says he doesn't have friends, just tenants, and no one cares about the doorman. Lester says again that he doesn't have the finger and Tillman pushes him back, knocking the whistle into the water. Lester gets in the fountain and grabs it. Tillman grabs him and ends up pushing him back, so he hits his head on the fountain and slumps down. Tillman looks around and then runs away, leaving Lester coughing in the fountain. He puts the whistle in his mouth and blows it, activating the camera. Randall then comes out and sees Lester and the crank. He picks up the crank and leaves with it.
Tillman admits that he killed Lester, but Lester should have just given him the finger. But he's not worried because someone will coming looking for him soon. Just then, Romy comes running in, leading in the same corrupt cops who "found" Nicky's body. Tillman tells the cops to take the trio's phones, since they've most likely been recording. Tillman tells the billionaires to wait while he takes care of this.
The cops chain the trio to poles in the secret room that leads to the dry cleaners and break their phones. Mabel says he won't get away with this, but Tillman thinks he will because no one knows they're there and no one even knows the stairwell exists. When the building is demolished, they'll go with it. He leaves to go to the press conference. Once they're gone, the trio wonders what they're going to do.
As they leave the room, Tillman tells a cop to get rid of the broken phones. He dumps them into the trash chute. Tillman steps out of the closet, followed by Camila White, and thanks everyone for coming to the press conference. The cops stop Howard from going down into the Velvet Room. Howard frantically texts the trio asking where they are.
Charles says he made a list of what he wanted to say to them before he died, but they're on the notes app on his phone. Mabel says she's going to miss them when she's dead, but Oliver says this can't be it. He challenges Charles to use his magic to free them. Charles says he could pick the lock if he could get a hanger from above them. But then he admits he's not sure he could and he can't get a hanger anyway because he'd have to shimmy up the pole. Oliver says he's been shimmying a lot since he started on testosterone. Charles says he got a letter from his doctor that he was in the placebo group all along. Mabel says that means he was doing all those things, not the medication. Plus, he got many matches on his dating app. He realizes they're right. They keep talking him up and he gets himself ready.
Miller walks through the press conference to bring Howard three phones, which came down his chute. He knows they belong to Mabel, Charles, and Oliver. Howard says they need muscle and asks where Vince and Randall are. Miller says they're in the courtyard, rescuing birds. They need help getting past the guards to get to the trio. Althea appears and says she can help them get past the guards just as Camila steps up to take her turn speaking.
Jay tells Bash that most of his schemes go sideways, so he's used to this. Bash isn't as used to failing, but he takes comfort in Napoleon. A loss will defeat many, but not the greats. The greats take a loss and use it for a more decisive victory. He thinks they should team up and get themselves on something even bigger than the casino. He asks Jay what they should buy. He throws out some possibilities. Jay says Bash freaks him out.
Camila is talking about the casino when LESTR starts playing Althea's song. Althea comes in, drawing attention onto herself. Then she says she was thinking about doing a farewell set in the secret gaming parlor downstairs, but they should only come downstairs if they want to. She leads everyone downstairs and they start pushing to get through.
Charles tells Mabel and Oliver that it looks like they can't get free, but they can. They just have to make some moves. They hear Althea's song in the distance and Charles starts dancing.
Althea steps onto a gaming table and sings.
Charles guides Oliver and Mabel through detangling themselves. Then he has them give him a boost. Then he keeps climbing until he's able to reach a dry cleaning bag. He uses his teeth to pull it down, then slides down the pole.
Howard and Miller come in looking for the trio, asking what the mayor did with them. Just then, Mabel, Oliver, and Charles come out through the secret doorway and Charles points and says Mayor Tillman is a murderer.
Tillman says they're making baseless accusations and asks where their proof is. Mabel puts in the code to open the secret drawer, where they put a recording device that is still going. Oliver rewinds it and plays the part where Tillman confesses to killing Lester.
Teddy, Vince, and Randall are standing at the top of the steps and wonder what Lester would do. Vince says Lester was a nice guy, but he'd probably tell them to go ahead and release the pigeons they have caged.
Tillman says it's an AI deepfake. Then he takes off running. Reporters chase him to the stairs, where the pigeons attack him.
Some cops arrest the corrupt cops as Williams arrests Tillman, lamenting that she voted for him. Mabel tells Charles and Oliver that they found Lester's killer, but they didn't save the Arconia. Camila wants to focus on the good: her casino, where the top pop star in the country may be their headliner. Althea is conflicted. Jay asks to talk to Mabel, but Mabel says she won't talk to him without Oliver and Charles there as well. Jay says that when Tillman killed Lester, he told them that whoever got his finger back would get the casino. Then he had them deal with Nicky's body, which was hard without being able to call their assistants. They used one of Camila's paint tarps, explaining the white, Camila White, paint on his suit. If his body had been found the same night as Lester's people would think they were connected, so Bash held his body for a week, then Jay hoisted him into the dry cleaners. Mabel has been asking if Jay is a good person and the story proves that he's not, but he does think he's different from the other billionaires. Or at least he wants to be. They watch as Camila and Bash are arrested and Jay says he just confessed all that he just told her to the cops. He hopes it means they get to keep their building and that he can continue to dream about them on a beach in the Maldives. As they get led out, Camila asks Bash how much time he thinks they'll do. It doesn't matter to him because he has all the time in the world. Jay is also arrested and Mabel, Charles, and Oliver celebrate their saving the building.
Sofia comes to the lobby to talk to Charles, who tells her his apartment is empty so her mother can't steal anything else. Sofia says that wasn't her finest moment, but she had to secure her family's future. He knows she was just using him, but she says he did have feelings for him. He asks her about the mayor, but that was over a long time ago. She sold the finger to the billionaires and she's done waiting to be taken to Italy. Her plane leaves in a few hours and the seat next to her is empty. Charles says he's going to do something he's never done before; he's going to say no to a dangerous woman. He walks away from her.
Charles, Oliver, and Mabel look at the shrine to Lester and say they miss him, but they'll take care of the building. Lorraine hears this and thanks them.
3 Months Later
Lorraine sites in her apartment in the Arconia with the window open, listening to the birds. She has a bag full of cash on her lap with a note from Sofia, from one widow to another, to help make her dreams come true.
In Positano, Italy, Sofia gets a call from Johnny. He and his brothers are surrounding Nonna, who is dying. Sofia asks him to put Nonna on and she tells her mother that the family has all they need and she helped a little with that, but Sofia's the one who really did it, so she can shut up now. The brothers cry as Nonna takes her last breath, but Sofia is relieved.
Howard and Uma welcome the new people to the Arconia. LESTR and Uma both notice Howard has done himself up for the day and then Randall comes in and says Howard has a visitor. It's Vinny, who has flowers from his mom's garden for Howard. Howard takes them and kisses Vinny.
In Charles's apartment, he, Mabel, and Oliver pour some wine and get ready to listen to Cinda's new podcast, The Girl with the Curls. It's about murder and takes place in the UK. Charles also wants to celebrate it being almost exactly five years since they first got together to listen to a Cinda Canning podcast about murder. Oliver says Charles has grown so little in that time. Mabel is a little jealous of Cinda who has a cool new case, when it's been three months since theirs. They hit play and listen to Cinda talk about her life in the UK.
As the podcast plays, a woman watching the description from the podcast stumbles her way through New York, leaving a trail of blood behind her. She gets to the Arconia and collapses just outside the gate.
Mabel, Charles, and Oliver approach the gate, where a crowd has gathered around the body, including Howard, who says he called an ambulance. He watched her crawl toward the gate. He thinks it's a shame she died just outside the building, since that falls outside the purview of their podcast. Just then, the woman gasps and reaches out her hand, putting it just inside the gate as she collapses again and dies. Then her head rolls back and they see that it's Cinda.
