Critical response
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the second season of Only Murders in the Building holds a 100% rating with an average rating of 8.40, based on 25 reviews. The website's consensus reads, "Only Murders in the Building gets a new lease on life with a knottier sophomore outing that retains the series' core charm and wit."[8] On Metacritic, the second season has a normalized score of 77 of 100, based on 8 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[9]
Many critics thought that the show's second season retains everything good about the previous season, although it wasn't nearly as impressive. Reviewing for Paste magazine, writer Allison Keene thought that it feels more like "a seamless continuation of its first rather than a whole new case."[10] Mary Siroky from Consequence felt that although the season was not quite as "tightly wound" as the first, its twisty mystery was "by no means an easy solve."[11]
