The series was created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman. In September 2021, the show was renewed by Hulu for a second season.

Production
Principal photography began in New York City on December 3rd, 2020.[1] Shooting lasted four months and concluded on April 15th, 2021.[2] The series had four directors, who directed blocks of two episodes. Jamie Babbit directed both the first two and last two episodes of the series.
