Short Summary[]

One question remains: Who did it??? Oh, who are we kidding -- there's a few more questions raised, too.

Full Summary[]

Poppy/Becky Butler, talks about leading an ordinary, but miserable, life prior to her infamy.

Becky listens to one of Cinda's podcasts while eating.

Becky brings her father breakfast, only to have him refuse it and spill it on her.

At work, Becky answers Mayor Tipton's phone. It's his wife, Theresa, but he tells Becky to tell her he's not there.

Becky tells Tipton she's leaving for the night unless he needs something. He tells her to stay for a while and have a drink with him. She says her dad is expecting her and walks out. As he leaves, he tells her she won't always be able to say no to him.

Becky listens to another of Cinda's podcasts, about a woman whose last written words were, "I need to get out of here." Becky searches the internet for Cinda Canning. Then she searches for a way to disappear so no one in your life can find you, which she then amends to simply how to disappear. Then she goes to the bathroom and cuts her own hair.

A reporter reports on Becky's disappearance.

Becky, now calling herself Poppy, goes to Cinda and tells her she has a story she thinks would make a really great podcast and tells Cinda her own story. Cinda is intrigued and asks if the woman is living or dead. It would be better if she's dead, ideally murdered by the mayor. In return for the story, Poppy wants a job.

Cinda talks to a reporter about All Is Not OK in Oklahoma, pretending it was all her idea. Poppy briefly thinks Cinda will give her credit, but finds Cinda's only trying to get her to go get lunch.

Cinda listens to Only Murders in the Building and is annoyed by it. She needs a new Oklahoma to compete with it. She doesn't want to be a one-hit wonder. Poppy asks if she's given more thought to Rose Cooper, the artist who disappeared years ago. Cinda says she needs a good murder, and she's tired of waiting for one to fall into her lap. She gets upset with Poppy and says she'll make it happen on her own.

Charles and Oliver are stunned to find out that Poppy is Becky, meaning she's still alive, which Mabel points out means that Cinda sent the mayor to prison for murdering someone she knows is still alive. Not she's trying to stop that by sending them to prison for a murder she committed. Oliver is impressed by her commitment. They need to get her back. Charles says it won't be easy, but he has a plan. When pressed, he reveals that he actually doesn't. They go over what they know about Bunny's murder and Kreps' involvement. Charles remembers that they have the knife and Williams is running forensics on it. As Oliver starts to record for the podcast, Mabel texts Williams to check on the knife. Charles says they'll need a confession, but they're not sure how to get one out of her. They need something that will unravel her and push her to confess. When Charles and Oliver can't think of anything, Mabel points out that Poppy drives her crazy.

Oliver, Charles, and Mabel meet with Poppy. Oliver asks if she prefers to be called Becky or Poppy. Poppy tries to bail, but Charles says they just need to know how to make Cinda crumble. Poppy says she doesn't like human error, interruption, people who work for her and don't look like her, and the inside of a tomato. Oliver understands. Charles says they can work for that. Poppy then remembers Cinda is very afraid of slow motion. Ivan comes to take their orders, but Poppy gets a message from Cinda that the finale of Only Murderers in the Building will be coming out tomorrow. She orders a marmalade and liverwurst sandwich to go. Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are disgusted by her order, but Ivan says it's the owner's sister's favorite sandwich. Bunny hated it. Mabel steps away to take a call from Detective Williams. Charles and Oliver are certain Cinda will name Mabel as the murderer. They have to put her away today before she can release it. They need a plan. Mabel comes back to the table and says Williams found something and now Mabel thinks she knows what 14 Savage means.

Uma asks why she's there, as she was planning the estate sale, which was making her very sad. All Bunny's plants are dying. She wonders why Mrs. Gambolini is back at Bunny's. Ursula says the shady email just said to be at Bunny's at 7 if you love good theater and/or want to be a part of history. Uma's upset there's no cake as the email said there would be cake. Howard straightens his bow tie and asks if he's dressed appropriately. He wasn't sure what to wear to a killer reveal party. Jonathan wonders if a killer reveal party is a party where a killer is revealed or a reveal parry that's killer in nature. Charles, Oliver, and Mabel come in and welcome them to the show. They've figured out who killed Bunny. Oliver says they can't just tell them, confusing Ursula and Marv. Charles says they have to tell them if they're going to be part of it. Mabel tells him to move it along because she's going to be here in an hour. Oliver asks who in the group has had theater training. Jonathan says he's on Broadway right now. Howard says he once auditioned for the part of Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He didn't get the part. Lester says he did a little light stage stuff when he was young. He graduated Juilliard, then did off-Broadway stuff with Tracy Letts, his rival. Then he realized his true passion was being a doorman, so he left Broadway behind. Then he reveals that was a lie, and he really left because of alcohol and spent some time homeless before taking the first job he could get, where he's been ever since. Liam finds that tragic. Oliver tells them they're all there to manipulate a mastermind into a live confession for their podcast livestream. Uma just wants to know where the cake is. Charles says it's on its way, but it's not about the cake. Uma tries to leave, but Charles stops her, saying it's the one shot Bunny's former neighbors have to bring her killer to justice. Mabel says they need their help. Uma says fine, but Bunny would have ordered the cake from Herman's on 42nd. Oliver says they only have an hour, but promises Charles will buy them each a cake of their choice if they pull it off.

As Oliver checks the camera, there's a knock at the door. Mabel opens the door and Cinda and Poppy walk in. Cinda is missing a parent/teacher conference, so she wants Mabel's confession to be good. Mabel said she was going to reveal the murderer live, which Cinda took as her preparing to confess. After Cinda walks away, Poppy asks if they're really doing this. Mabel says they are. Cinda is confused when she walks into the next room to find balloons and a banner that says, "We Cracked It!" Charles welcomes her to the killer reveal party, and she has the same question Jonathan had about what that means. Oliver says it will all be explained. Oliver says they have their recording equipment on, so she should probably turn hers on as well. Cinda tells Poppy to do that. Charles says they'll be revealing Bunny's killer and it's also a killer party. As Alice walks in, Charles says he takes no pleasure in saying the killer is in the room. Charles lays out the facts of Bunny's last day, including the last time they saw her and sent her away to her death. Charles questions who would want to frame three innocent people. He points toward Ursula, but apologizes and adjusts his finger to point at Cinda. Cinda killed Bunny and covered her tracks with the help of a crooked cop she met in Oklahoma. Cinda asks how he knew about Kreps and everyone gasps. They say that Cinda is not a great podcaster who solves murders, but a hack who makes them up. This time, she tried to get away with a doozy. Cinda is charmed by their prose, but questions why she'd want to kill a woman she never met. Lester says she did meet Bunny, and he has the logs to prove she was there a lot before the murder. Cinda says she was keeping tabs on the Kono investigation. Lester says she killed Bunny, his only friend. As he takes the acting to the next level, Howard breaks out into song until he's told to stop. Cinda says there's no motive. Charles and Oliver talk and move in slow motion to unsettle Cinda. Soon, everyone else joins in and Cinda tries to leave. Charles tells everyone to stop, then cuts a tomato in front of her as he talks about her manufacturing the story for her podcast. Despite this, Cinda won't confess, which Mabel says is because she didn't do it. She points to Alice and accuses her. She was making art from Mabel's trauma and wanted to frame her to increase the value of her works. Alice is outraged and says they went down this road before. Mabel says Alice is a charmer, but she's also a killer. She shows Alice the game card she found, revealing that Alice had lied about not being the Son of Sam. She went to the diner to beg Bunny for her Rose Cooper painting, but Bunny wanted $14 million for it. 14 for Savage. It was out of Alice's prize range. Alice calls Mabel a talentless, smug bitch and Cinda is shocked that Mabel got her. Alice grabs the knife next to the cake and Charles pushes Mabel out of the way, leading to Alice stabbing him in the abdomen. He collapses to the ground as the Arconia residents restrain Alice and Uma calls the police. Howard faints at the sight of the blood. Oliver and Mabel cry and hold Charles' hand as he bleeds to death. Cinda asks Poppy if she got all that.

Uma tapes Alice's feet as Howard comforts Mrs. Gambolini. Uma tells them police and ambulance are three minutes away. They've covered Charles's body with a sheet. Cinda says she's sorry for what just happened, but says Mabel was incredible. She could use someone like Mabel on her staff. She could even have her own podcast. Poppy is upset to hear that. She says this was pure luck as there's nothing to tie Alice to the murder. Poppy sneezes, then asks why Mabel gets a podcast. Poppy does everything for Cinda. She told Cinda about the Rose Cooper art and Cinda made a joke about it. Poppy sneezes again, which Cinda says means she has to quarantine for a week. Mabel asks why Poppy told Cinda about the art. Poppy says it was an idea for a podcast. Cinda wasn't interested, but Poppy was. She was also interested in the painting Bunny owned. As Poppy sneezes again, Oliver asks if she has some kind of allergy, perhaps to Mrs. Gambolini? Mabel says the killer sneezed while leaving the crime scene. Poppy says it's not a crime to be allergic to birds and asks if they're going to believe some young girl hiding in the walls. Oliver says only the killer would have known there was a girl there. Mabel adds that her name is Lucy. Cinda says Poppy's is Becky. Poppy asks who told Cinda that. Charles pops out from under the sheet and says they did. Everyone is shocked and Howard faints again. Charles shows the blood pack and says he wasn't really stabbed. Oliver says they've been onto her since that afternoon, they all have. Poppy doesn't understand what's happening. Cinda tells her it's over. She knows the game Poppy played with her in Oklahoma, and they know the game she played with them in the Arconia. Howard stands up and says he only real fainted once and the other times were acting. Poppy says she just wanted to make a good podcast. She wanted Cinda to notice her, but things went wrong from the start, from the night she texted them to get out of the building and Mabel came back to her apartment instead. She asks how they figured it out.

Mabel steps away to answer Detective Williams' call. Williams says she got saliva off the murder weapon, which matched a dead girl from far away. Mabel guesses Oklahoma, which Williams confirms. Back at the table, Mabel says she knows what 14 Savage means and points to the menu, which says the #14 sandwich is liverwurst and marmalade, the sandwich Poppy ordered. They watch as Poppy gets her order from Ivan and leaves.

Poppy says before she became one of the most talked about people in the country, she was pretty ordinary, by which she means miserable. As she talks, Williams comes in. Kreps has already been arrested. As Poppy is arrested, Cinda shakes Oliver and Charles's hands. Mabel gives Alice her props back. As she leaves, Williams nods to Oliver and Charles.

Kreps looks at Cinda, who flirts with him, but then moves his gaze to Poppy.

Poppy and Kreps lie in bed and talk, plotting the the murder. Kreps tells her she can do it because Bunny is old and mean. They both deserve it. Poppy kisses him and agrees that she deserves it. Then she tells him about the secret passageways she found.

Charles, Oliver, and Mabel record the ending to the podcast.

Cinda records the ending to her own podcast.

Charles says that's two murders back to back. Now they can get back to talking to each other like people, not just about murders.

Charles and Lucy arrive on the Brazzos set. He asks where the wheelchair is. The director asks if he read the stage directions and informs him that he's being given a much more significant part and the wheelchair is gone, along with the dementia. Joy comes to touch up Charles's make-up. He stutters and stumbles, and she asks if he's asking her out. He nods. They make plans for that night. She pulls him in for a kiss, celebrating him finally getting it out. Then she wipes her lipstick off his lip.

Alice is pleased that Mabel is finally actually renovating her aunt's apartment. Alice looks at the mural and asks if that becomes integrated into the new design and if she does. Mabel says no, but says Alice could help. Together, they paint over the mural.

Will comes to see Oliver and says they survived the show. He asks where Mrs. Gambolini, whom Oliver is calling Mama G, is. Oliver shows Will and says she's looking a little piqued. Will goes to check her out. Oliver then says there's something he needs to tell Will. Will stops him, saying if Oliver's not his father, he doesn't know what a father is. Oliver asks how he knew and Will reminds Oliver he knows all his tells. They hug. Oliver's phone rings, but he doesn't pull back until Will tells him to take it. It's Donna, a producer friend of his. She has a job for him on Broadway, opening in a year. He asks who the star is and is happy with the answer.

One Year Later

Oliver stands at Ben Glenroy's dressing room door and tells him everyone gets opening night jitters and Oliver can talk him through it. Ben comes out and says he's good. It's the other guy Oliver needs to talk to. Oliver says he talked to him. Ben asks if he apologized. Oliver suggests letting the tension between them seep in for the premiere. Ben warns Oliver that he might kill him. The stage manager calls everyone to their places. She tells Ben to break a leg. Ben coughs as he walks out onto the stage and gets ready. Charles comes to stand next to him and wishes him luck with the show. When Ben thanks him, Charles says wishing luck is a curse in the theater. Ben says he knows that. He was just trying to be polite. Charles says they have two and a half hours to get through. If he can do it, Ben can too. Ben says he's the pro there and Charles doesn't have to worry about him. Charles tells him to be smart and stay away from "her." Ben asks why and what Charles will do. Charles says he knows what Ben did. He backs away and Ben scoffs.

Mabel finds her seat next to Lucy, who is sitting next to Joy. They agree it's been quite a year. Mabel says any year without murder is a good one in her book. Oliver comes to sit next to Mabel and tells them to get ready for the show. The lights go down and the curtain opens. Ben starts his monologue, but then stops and collapses. He stands back up but can't continue and collapses again after he calls for help. Oliver gets up and asks for anyone who can help. Charles walks on stage and says he's not moving. Mabel says, "You've gotta be fucking kidding me."
