Charles, Oliver and Mabel welcome an unexpected young visitor who reveals hidden secrets about the inner workings of the Arconia. We also discover Charles once recorded a hit single that was huge in Germany.
Full Summary[]
Charles and a young girl are singing and playing Angel in Flip-Flops.
A teenage girl talks to the camera about returning to a place you have not visited for a long time. It is revealed that the girl is Lucy, Charles' ex-wife's daughter. A montage shows that Lucy and Charles have been in touch over the weeks since Charles' arrest. Through this, Charles learns that Lucy's mom is getting married. Lucy says as hard as it can be to go back, sometimes you have nowhere else to go.
Charles begins filming his role as "Uncle Brazzos," where he finds that the producers have taken measures to ensure he can be written out of the show if he gets arrested: his character is in a wheelchair and has "a touch of dementia". Charles is annoyed by this and returns to his trailer to prepare, where he finds Lucy waiting for him.
Oliver is on the phone with his son Will, who is trying to get him to come and help him in directing his son's school play. Oliver puts him off, saying he is busy. He gets into the elevator, then sees that Teddy Dimas is there, having been released from jail until the trial. Teddy initially seems very calm and measured, having started taking mindfulness classes in prison. However, he then vaguely threatens Oliver. Theo is also out until his trial and very angry. As he gets off the elevator, Teddy more directly threatens Oliver, terrifying him.
Charles talks to Lucy in his apartment, who reveals that she came to Manhattan specifically to see him and break away from Connecticut. She tells him her mom got married two weeks ago. Oliver and Mabel arrive with the news that Teddy is back and wants to kill Oliver. Mabel says Howard is coming by to give them some information about Nina. They both stop when they notice Lucy. Lucy is happy to meet them and says she always listened to their podcast. Charles pulls Mabel and Oliver to the side and says he's so unprepared for Lucy and intimidated by her constant use of slang, acronyms and references to pop culture that he knows nothing about. He asks Mabel to talk to her and find out some more information about her and her plans. Mabel tries to talk to Lucy, but also doesn't understand what she's saying. Charles and Oliver return, having found a copy of Charles' single Angel in Flip-Flops. They play it while Charles pulls ingredients out to make their omelet. Charles reveals that he makes $200,000 a year from royalties since it has been sampled by various rappers. Lucy pulls a knife from the knife block and finds it's covered in blood. Lucy asks if it's the murder weapon. Oliver recognizes the knife as his own. Mabel wonders what will show up next. She tells Lucy that evidences keeps showing up in their apartments. Charles says Lucy can't be involved in this, so she has to leave. She agrees to go, but to the bathroom. While she's gone, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel fight over what to do with the knife. Mabel says it could prove she's innocent because her prints aren't on it. Oliver says whoever is doing this is toying with them. When there's a knock at the door, Oliver panics and throws the knife up, lodging it in the ceiling. As they look up in horror, Howard comes in and stands directly below the knife. He confessed that rather than getting a black eye from playing with his cat as he'd claimed, he was actually punched by Nina Lin, who he describes as violent. He believes she might have killed Bunny. They start to push Howard to the door, forcing him out. When they hear something breaking, they rush to the bathroom.
In the bathroom, they find that Lucy has opened a secret passageway.
As they explore the passageway, Lucy says she knows about them because she used to play hide and seek with Anaya from across the hall. Charles suspects they were from prohibition, to move contraband. They spy on a resident who is working out. Oliver starts recording as they walk, painting the passageway as the killer's secret lair. Lucy tells them to let her lead as she knows the way. Charles says he doesn't want her to be part of this and wants her to call her mother. She says her mother doesn't want to talk to her after Lucy skipped her wedding. Oliver asks how they'd get to the sixth floor and Lucy directs him. He leaves to spy on Teddy while Lucy directs the others a different way.
When they hear someone calling Nina's name, they stop to spy on her. They see Jared McGregory approaching her. She says she can't stop thinking about Bunny and wonders if they're doing the right thing. Jared reminds her that Bunny had to go. In the corner of her apartment is a picture of the Arconia with a giant space-age dome on top. Charles and Mabel wonder if Nina was planning to change the Arconia to put the giant space dome on top of it, which Bunny would never have allowed. Things heat up between Nina and Jared, so Mabel and Charles move on.
Meanwhile, Oliver is spying on Teddy. He sees that Teddy's son Theo is also in the apartment. Teddy says he can "fix" their problems, but Theo responds that he has his own lawyer now, This enrages Teddy, who protests that he looks out for Theo. Theo screams that he has no life anymore and that Teddy is "killing him". Broken, Teddy says that he loves Theo, but Theo leaves after telling Teddy to stay away from him. Teddy sits in his chair and weeps.
Oliver says he got nothing from Teddy except a desire to hug his son. Charles and Mabel tell him about Nina's plans for the Arconia. Lucy suggests they just give Nina a push and record her confessing because she's super hormonal.
Mabel, Oliver, Charles, and Lucy go to Nina's apartment with a gift basket. Oliver starts recording as they believe she's about to confess. Nina says she needs Jared, who is out getting late-minute baby things. Just then, Nina's water breaks on the floor. Charles directs them to call 9-1-1 and comforts Nina while they wait. Nina says she wishes Bunny were there, as Bunny was so excited for the baby. She begs them to find Bunny's killer. Just then, paramedics arrive, to everyone's relief.
As Charles and Oliver help see Nina off to the hospital, Lucy wonders aloud with Mabel what would have happened if things had gone differently between her mom and Charles. Mabel understands missing a really good dad. She lost her own when she was really young and Charles sometimes reminds her of him. She encourages Lucy to tell Charles the truth about why she came to see him.
Oliver, Mabel, Charles, and Lucy sit in Charles's apartment and talk about their full day. As they talk, the knife falls and stabs the floor. Oliver excuses himself, saying he knows where he needs to be. He takes the knife with him as he goes. Mabel leaves with him. Lucy asks Charles about Jan. She liked Jan when she listened to the podcast and felt she was a good match for Charles, which was nice because she always worried about him being alone after they left. She hopes he finds someone and understand why Jan seemed right. Lucy says she and her mom were fighting, which is why she bailed on the wedding. She doesn't like her mom's new husband. He's not a bad guy, but he's not Charles. Lucy says it wasn't easy being with her mother without him. It was nice to hear from him, but eight years without a text was a really long time. He apologizes, saying he didn't know he was allowed. Her mother said no contact. Lucy says he's allowed. She says of the five dads she's had, she liked him the best.
Oliver arrives at Will's school to help him. He bribes the kids with skittles to get them to follow directions. He thanks Will for never giving up on him.
Charles has ordered a car to take Lucy back to Connecticut. She tells him the night he got arrested was the night of the wedding and instead of going to the wedding, she came to see him. She texted him to meet up, but he said he couldn't. Charles is glad she didn't, because he wouldn't have wanted her near the Arconia that night.
Lucy sneaks into Charles's place and into the passageways. While recording a video, she hears Bunny's murder, then sees someone coming into the passageway. She hides, but hears the figure sneeze before leaving.
Lucy tells Charles she came to see him because she was worried about him. There's a lot going on in the building and he needs to find them before they find him. Charles puts Lucy in the car and reminds the driver no detours. He checks his phone to find many calls from an unknown caller.
Charles goes to the unknown caller, saying he needs help. It's Jan, who is in prison.
