Dickie Glenroy is a recurring character in Season 3 and Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building. He is the brother of Ben Glenroy and the biological son of Loretta Durkin.
He is portrayed by Jeremy Shamos.
History[]
Early Life[]
Dickie was born to Loretta Durkin. However, Loretta was young and felt unprepared to raise a child, so she placed him to be adopted by a couple who believed they couldn't have a child.[1] However, that changed years later when they managed to have Ben. Dickie grew up looking after Ben and cleaning up after him.[2]
Death Rattle[]
Dickie accompanied his brother, Ben, to the first read-through for Death Rattle, Ben's upcoming Broadway debut. Ben blamed Dickie for them arriving late, saying Dickie had them one block over. Dickie then handed out NDAs for everyone to sign, including them authorizing filming as Ben was making a documentary about the show as well. When Ben saw a platter of cookies near his seat, Dickie went to remove them as they weren't on Ben's CoBro diet, but Ben said to leave them. After Ben ate a bite of one, Dickie took the rest of them away.
Four months later, on Death Rattle's opening night, Dickie decided he was going to quit being Ben's manager after Loretta helped him realize how poorly Ben treated him. He wrote out a paper to help him explain why. Ben took the letter for him and read it before the show, upsetting him.[3] Shortly after the show start, Ben collapsed on stage and was pronounced dead. Dickie called someone to let them know and accompanied Ben to the hospital, where his stomach was pumped and he regained consciousness. Ben then insisted on going to Oliver's opening night party to apologize to everyone about his behavior. While he was apologizing, Ben's phone rang and Dickie told him he needed to take the call. Ben stepped away to do so.[4]
Overwhelmed by the situation, Dickie got drunk, put on Ben's CoBro costume, and went to Snitches Get Stitches, where he believed Ben was hiring sex workers. He ended up passing out there and spending the whole night.[3] Later that night, Ben was pushed into an elevator shaft and died a second time.[4]
Managing Loretta[]
With Ben dead, Dickie went to Loretta and offered to be her manager. He used his connections to get her an audition for a network drama, a role she ended up getting. She was going to take the role, but Oliver reminded her she was under contract with Death Rattle. However, he decided not to enforce it and let her go to LA to do the show. After she performed for Donna and Cliff to try to keep their financial support, she told Oliver she was going to stay and do Death Rattle Dazzle.[5]
Auction[]
Dickie held an auction to sell off some of Ben's movie merchandise. Mabel and Theo came to check out what he was selling and also asked Dickie about the night Ben died. Dickie got upset, saying that he wasn't going to give her anything for her podcast and he was tired of people trying to make money off Ben even after he'd died. Mabel apologized and he admitted he shouldn't have taken his frustration out on her. He'd spent his whole life cleaning up after Ben and the one time he looked away for a second, Gregg killed Ben. Mabel told him that she didn't think Gregg killed Ben, but he said that he'd been spotted leaving the Arconia right after Ben's time of death.
Later that evening, Dickie bought the hankie Ben had on him when he died from Uma Heller, who had taken it off his body and sold it to Dickie, unaware of who he was.[2]
Sitzprobe[]
After Dickie was investigated for Ben's death, Dickie confessed to Loretta that he felt free after Ben had died because he wasn't being pushed around. Loretta became suspicious about Dickie's actions. During Loretta's performance, Williams pulled Dickie aside to arrest him but Loretta stopped the music and confessed to Ben's murder, leading to her being arrested in his place.[1]
Five days later, Oliver, Charles, and Mabel came to Dickie and told him that they didn't believe Loretta really killed Ben and that she'd only confessed to protect Dickie, who didn't understand why she'd do that. He admitted to covering up Ben's bloodwork from the hospital, knowing there would be stuff in there he didn't want getting out, and told them how he'd spent the night. With the real killer still unknown, Dickie said he needed to call his lawyer.[3]
Opening Night[]
On opening night, Dickie came to the show to support Loretta. When she left the stage after singing "Look for the Light," she decided to tell Dickie that she was his birth mother. He told her he already knew, that he suspected it since they first met. He had a feeling he couldn't explain about her. She told him she always thought about him, even before they met and got to know each other. After the show, Dickie told Loretta the show she'd been offered was willing to wait for her after the success of Death Rattle Dazzle, but she had other offers as well, so they might not say yes to the show. Either way, it would mean relocating to Los Angeles.[6]
Loretta's Wedding[]
Dickie attended Loretta's wedding to Oliver and walked her down the aisle along with Oliver's son, Will.[7]
