Beau Tillman is a recurring character in Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building. He was the Mayor of New York, and was ultimately revealed to be the murderer of Lester Coluca.
He is portrayed by Keegan-Michael Key.
History[]
He is the mayor of New York City. He got his position because Bash Steed funded his campaign. In exchange, he had to do Bash's bidding.[2] Anytime Bash, Camila White, or Jay Pflug wanted anything from his office, they invited him to one of their game nights, where they would lose money to him and he'd give them whatever they needed. He showed up to one such night to play them for the casino contract, but Nicky Caccimelio had learned that Tillman was sleeping with his wife, so he attacked Tillman with a cleaver and cut off his finger. Lester then hit Nicky with an elevator crank, killing him, and ran off with Tillman's finger. Knowing it would implicate him, Tillman chased Lester and tried to get the finger back, but Lester refused to be bought off and said if Tillman wanted to kill him, he'd have to do it in front of the cameras. Tillman knew that bash owned the security company and could erase the footage, then he followed Lester outside, where Tillman pushed Lester into the fountain, causing him to hit his head and bleed to death.[1]
He came to a wake for Lester. There, he gave a speech, saying he loved Lester, whom he didn't know. He also reminded everyone to go out and vote. When he spotted Charles-Haden Savage, he told Charles he was a fan of the podcast and asked about an endorsement and then to come on the podcast. Charles declined, saying their podcast is apolitical, but Tillman had Romy give Charles his card in case he changed his mind.[3]
When at a hibachi restaurant, Tillman ran into Charles and made another play to get on the podcast. Charles again told him it wasn't that kind of podcast, but Tillman told him to set something up with Romy.[4]
They finally arranged to interview Tillman for their podcast and Tillman came to the Arconia to record it, with Romy close behind him. When he brought up their investigation, Mabel said they couldn't podcast about the murder because their prime suspects owned Wondify, their production company. Tillman asked if Bash Steed was one of their suspects. He said that he loved Bash and would be shocked if he were involved. However, then he sent Romy to get him some coffee and once she was gone, he told them Bash was definitely their murderer. He told them that Romy was Bash's niece and he'd forced Tillman to hire her to keep an eye on him. Bash was the primary funder of Tillman's campaign and used that to leverage Tillman to do Bash's bidding, at the expense of fulfilling his campaign promises. He then told him he overheard Romy and Bash on the phone and knew the billionaires would be at a secret rich person meeting. He gave them the address so they could check it out.[2]
Tillman later came to the Arconia for a press conference to announce Camila's new casino. He went down to the Velvet Room, where Mabel realized he was the killer and his finger was fake. He had his corrupt cops tie the trio up and break their phones in case they were recording. Then he went to the press conference. The conference was interrupted by Althea leading the crowd downstairs for an impromptu concert. The trio escaped and then told everyone that Tillman was the killer. They had proof because they had hidden a recording device in the secret drawer, which they pulled out and played for everyone. Tillman tried to run, but he was stopped by pigeons in the stairwell. He was arrested and taken away.[1]
